The Peaks of Otter Campground is in between the bases of two dominating mountains in Virginia. Campsites are shaded under an umbrella of thick trees and campers are provided with tables, campfire rings and grills. This campground is full of beautiful wildlife, lake access, hiking, birding, and more. There are around 73 campsites for campers that are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Camp Karma

Camp Karma is an upscale primitive campground located on 42 acres in the beautiful region of Bedford, Virginia near Smith Mountain Lake. Whether you’re new to camping or a seasoned woodsman, Camp Karma Campground offers an enjoyable experience for campers of all ages. They offer 36 campsites ideal for tent campers, small trailers, and pop-ups up to 28 feet.

3. Smith Mountain Lake State Park

Camping at the Smith Mountain Lake State Park remains open from the first Friday in March through the first Monday of December. Reservations are strongly recommended during prime season. There are 50 sites, all located in the woods; no waterfront camp sites are available. All sites have a picnic table, fire ring grill, and a post for a lantern.

8. Paradise Lake Family Campground

Paradise Lake Family Campground is a family-oriented campground that is located in Appomattox County, Virginia. They are the closest campground to Lynchburg, VA. 10. Sherando Lake Group Camp

The Sherando Lake Group Camp is perfect for everyone. It is situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is locally known as the jewel of the mountains. Campers can enjoy fishing, hiking, swimming, and a sandy beach. Each site can accommodate a maximum of 15 guests. All sites are fenced and equipped with picnic tables, a grill, lantern poles, and a serving table.
