With the kids out of school, your family will have some extra time to make special memories. There are so many things to do in Lynchburg, Virginia that there’s no time to feel bored! Here are a few Lynchburg summer activities that are fun for the whole family.

Visit Riverside Park Sprayground

On those extra-hot days, cool off at Rivermont Park Sprayground. This family-friendly mini water park includes dumping buckets, tulip sprays, spitting frogs, and more. This is fun for the little ones and the bigger ones; there’s no age limit, and admission is free all summer long.

Slip 'N Slide

Remember when you were a kid and you spent hours slipping and sliding in your backyard? Why not let your kids do the same thing! Get a slip 'n slide and put it right in your backyard (or front, whatever works for you guys! The kids will be back there for hours just sliding away!

Summer is the perfect time to teach your kids the importance of serving others. Best of all, it can be fun in Lynchburg, especially when done as a family! Kids of all ages (even adult-age kids!) love putt putt golf. This is a great way to enjoy the beautiful Lynchburg summer weather. There are a few places to choose from in Lynchburg, including Fun Center Putt Putt and Tiny Town Golf, and just down the road in Bedford there is KJ’s Food and Fun Zone and Bedford Mini Golf.

Even on hot or rainy days, you can still take the kids to an indoor playground to help them get their energy out. Bounce About at the River Ridge Mall is open 7 days a week for kids under 12. Jump Lynchburg is perfect for older kids, and also has special play times for children under 6 and children with special needs.

Go Swimming

Visit the Library

The Lynchburg Public Library, Campbell County Libraries and Forest Library have all kinds of events made just for kids throughout the summer. Plus, letting your kids check out books from the library is a great way to instill a love of reading and learning in them from an early age.

Visit Local Parks and Playgrounds

Plant a garden

Another great way to teach your kids about nature is by planting a garden. Whether you have room for a large garden or just a few small pots in the front yard, some fun plants to grow with kids include tomatoes and herbs.

Visit a museum

Did you know that during the Civil War, Lynchburg was the second wealthiest city in the country and the only major southern city not captured by the Union Army? Visit a local museum (some are free!) to learn all about Lynchburg’s interesting and surprising history. For the younger kids, check out Amazement Square for some educational fun. Play in the Sand

Just because Lynchburg isn’t near the ocean doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun in the sun! Take a day trip to Smith Mountain Lake to check out the public beaches and outdoor recreation options. Smith Mountain Lake State Park has over 1,000 acres of dog-friendly, public beach and many other activities to enjoy such as trails; seasonal live music; playgrounds; canoe, paddle board, and jet ski rentals; and more! Smith Mountain Lake Community Park has walking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a fishing pier. Play ball

Gather a few of your kids’ friends and some sports equipment for an afternoon of fun, friends, and fitness!
