Coffee shops have become much more than just a place to get a quick pick-me-up—today they are a culture of their own. Each shop has their own identity and provide a different perk for its customers. Lynchburg has a wide variety of different coffee shops to choose from, and each one has acquired its own personality. There are coffee shops suited for a cozy date, a fun Friday night out with friends, quiet homework spots, or a kid-friendly hang out. Here are some of the most popular in the city.

Dublin Coffee House

This dimly lit and cozy shop is the perfect location for a coffee date. Dublin coffee is located in the heart of downtown Lynchburg, making it convenient to continue your date at a dinner spot around the corner or to take a nice walk by the James River. The walls are adorned with white string lights, and the hardwood floors and beautiful stone walls make for the perfect atmosphere. There are high top and low top tables as well as various couches spaced throughout the shop, ensuring you and your date a quiet spot to yourselves. Dublin’s extensive coffee menu includes seasonal flavors such as wild blackberry and maple spice.

White Hart Café

White Hart Café is the perfect spot to go out with your best friends to enjoy music, coffee, and some comfort food. Located on Main Street, White Hart brings the community together for live music, open mic nights, and trivia nights. Mommy Mondays are also held two times a month where mothers can bring their children and an employee will provide coloring pages, snacks, and a read aloud time while mothers can socialize and enjoy a latte among new friends. White Hart has a wide menu that stretches beyond coffee, including breakfast all day, burgers and fries, and treats, including gluten free options!

Golf Park Coffee

If you are a college student who needs to catch up on some homework in a quiet place, Golf Park Coffee is calling your name. This trendy new spot is set up with bar seating along the windows, a few isolated tables, and a long farm-style table in the middle. You will be among fellow coffee drinkers and homework-doers around the table. Music is played softly in the background and a delicious coffee menu awaits you with dairy alternatives such as oat milk.

Bean Tree Café

The Bean Tree Café has been a Lynchburg favorite for years. It has the most seating out of all of the local coffee spots, which makes it the perfect place to bring friends, get homework done, and, for parents, a great place to bring the kids, too! Mom and dad can enjoy a cup of coffee while kids are welcome to play in their “Bean Tot Corner” filled with games and coloring pages. Their menu is also extensive with many lunch options as well as sweet treats (including Homestead Creamery ice cream!) that will please you and your kids!

Muse Coffee Co

This indie, hipster coffee shop provides the community with delicious specialty coffee, lattes, and teas as well as tasty pastries, sandwiches, and avocado toast options. The Muse has several large high-top tables with signs encouraging that you share the space with others. This shop integrates the community, making it almost impossible not to make a new friend before you leave. The artsy shop even has a spiral staircase that leads to more quiet seating upstairs.

Third Wave Coffee

Third Wave Coffee shop takes pride in their specialty coffee and will provide you with a cup of warm java that will leave you wanting more. Not only is the taste high quality but the business is committed to only partnering with top notch importers. Third Wave refuses to compromise on ethics, ensuring your coffee is coming from farmers who are being supported and treated fairly. The shop itself is a great place to sit down and get work done with comfy couches and a wide variety of tables and seating arrangements.

5th Street Grind

5th Street Grind is a new spot in town that won’t disappoint. Bring your friends and immerse yourselves in the local culture. The shop welcomes local painters, musicians, poets, and authors and gives them a stage for the customers to enjoy. The shop partners with Red Rooster Coffee Roaster of Floyd, Virginia to provide you with a perfectly brewed cup of coffee.

Whether you like specialty, high quality coffee, want to bring your kids to a coffee date with friends, are looking for a great place to bring a date, or need to get some homework done, Lynchburg’s coffee shop scene has an option for you. Come join the coffee culture in Lynchburg today!
